Perfect place for dinner dates! My go to when I'm in the downtown area. Service is always nice. Bread + butter is a must.

I came here on a budget for Mother's Day and really enjoyed it. There are options to sit upstairs and downstairs. They first will serve you bread with a side of butter sprinkled with salt flakes. There are a lot of seafood options and a few non seafood dishes. The dish that I would like to highlight is one of the iced shellfish platter. There were a good amount of stuff on their compared to other places and everything on there tasted fresh. Our waiter was very friendly and explained the menu to us really well. He did a good job on checking up on us. The restroom was nice and clean. I would definitely like to try this place again!

Having been to Watergrill's in multiple cities, the downtown SD location has always been good but this time it exceeded my expectations! Went again after a couple years of having been back and it was literally some of the best fish I've eaten! Husband and I sat at the bar and the bartender was phenomenal. We ordered the shrimp cocktail and the seabass (which was out of this world amazing)- they even split it into two portions since we were sharing. Melt in your mouth goodness! Also shared the carafe of Sancerre which is always one of my go-to whites. the ONLY downside of the meal was after we finished eating and were chatting with a couple next to us at the bar. My husband and the other gentleman stood up to converse and a dude approached me and the woman and asked "Excuse me, are those two guys with you?" "Yes, that's my husband we've been ordering at the bar for the past hour" I replied... "They can't stand at the bar as it is a sit only bar" he said...was the strangest thing to ever hear come out of a (managers?) voice. Definitely put us off a little but otherwise the bartender serving us, food and drink was 5 stars so i'm still leaving that extra star. Note to management: don't approach/bother paying patrons when they stand at the bar for a few minutes to chat?! What an awkward thing to ask when we've all been sitting and eating/drinking at the bar for over an hour. Otherwise, still dreaming of that sea bass days later. Can't wait to return for another incredible meal....

Overall very nice experience with tasty seafood cooked exactly to your liking. The staff is delightful and very eager to make you comfortable. We started with some appetizers, and their oyster sampler was out of this world. So fresh and tasty! The fried calamari was perfectly cooked and came with two delicious dipping sauces. And their octopus cooked to perfection, just like we wanted. For our main dishes, I got the deconstructed tuna, my friend had a yummy sushi roll, and another friend ordered the spiny lobsters. All of them were delicious, except for the Brussels sprouts, which were kind of meh. We couldn't resist trying every dessert, and omg, the key lime pie was my absolute favorite!

Can't say enough about our experience at Water Grill. We organized a small private event/dinner and the service and food was impeccable. It was a smooth planning process with Arian and during the event, our server Ashley was so attentive in all the best ways. We hope to be back again.

Cool spot with a massive bar and open windows in a very touristy and lively part of downtown right down the street from Petco Park. Great vibe, hosts, servers, and runners. Good choice of booths and free standing tables for larger parties. The options for all kinds of fish, shellfish, and seafood are vast with some great west coast representations: sea urchin, Santa Barbara prawns, Mexican swordfish, Alaskan halibut, to name a few. Check out my pics to see what we got. No one in the party was drinking, but the cocktail and wine list looked solid, and I'm confident the server would have helped guide us to good choices. Leave room for desert, if only to split something. Minor complaint - for a place that leads with oysters, the shucking was lacking. Oysters not full separated from the shell, one cut in half, shell bits. At close to $4 a pop, please get each one right.

We stopped here to eat before attending a padre baseball game. The restaurant is like a five minute walk from PETCO park. This place is upscale , clean, quiet , and very friendly staff! Everything was great!!!!! I would have them 5 stars however, they didn't tell us that soup and salad was an additional cost. We ordered our meals and the waitress asked if we wanted a soup or salad. We assumed it came with the entree. When we got our bill we were surprised to see they charged us for our wedge salad and soup. We ordered three drinks , two entrees , soup , salad and the total bill was $184. They tried to charge us for an additional soup that we didn't order as well. Other than that the food was amazing , the shrimp scampi, Alaskan halibut was so great! The halibut was season and cooked to perfection. The drinks were tasty and strong. Recommend the castaway , the village and the margarita...those three drinks were great! We will definitely be back.
